Today I was playing with a small pulsed Nd-YAG laser. It's a compact device similar to the SSY-1 with but with ceramic sealed enclosure.
I think it doesn't work...
Looking through the resonant cavity, it is possible to see the pale pink of active medium but, white light as well as red and green laser light scatters a lot. Checking better the HR with a lens I've seen something like melted gelatine (brain like structure).
I don't have any experience in pulsed Nd-YAG lasers so I don't know if this strange behaviour of HR is due to the embedded q-switch or is the causes of laser failure.
Any idea?
Cheers,
Cristiano

Yes, it sounds like your q switch is fried if it looks like brain material. remove it first.

The problem is the sealed ceramic enclosure: I don't know how to remove the ends without damage the entire device.
