Help with information about creating an optic illusion of rain drops

Hello everyone 
I would like to create an illusion of acid drops raining down with green laser. Is this possible?
I was reading all kinds of things yesterday and late night, but the best example of what I found was Holovect which turned out to be a scam. Is there a amateur way to create what I want? Since I don't know all the terminology it's hard for me to search what I want.
