The non-contact thermometer is $1.00 off with coupon. It can be fashioned into a DIY laser power meter with a little black paint and aluminum foil:

Could you explain how you used the black paint and foil to convert it to a power meter?
Those magnetic bases are great deal.

Basically, you cover the IR sensor with a small square of black-painted foil and use the foil as a black body radiator. Here's a link to the Laser Pointer Forums for some details: http://laserpointerforums.com/f42/simpl ... 26341.html

It is certainly not laboratory grade, but what can you expect for just a few bucks.

The base is metric, if you care, and not 1/4"-20.

Hello Everyone,

I used to use those mounts a lot. I had whole setups based on them. Great deals. I don't know about this specific one but when I used to get them the kind with paddle like knobs were the worst of the bunch. That link has those kind of handles.

Of course it could be a great one with those knobs. I'm just saying in the past, I didn't like those. It wasn't the knobs, it was everything else. I could just id them by the knob style.

The ir thermometer is a different story. That little thing is amazing. I've never used it as a power meter, only as a thermo but its just a great deal. Very useful for so many things. They also have a 14 dollar digital scale, perfect for chemistry. Very accurate according to my test masses. It even folds up in its own case to protect the tray.
